Test blackbery 9700
The preferred lid finish "metallic" of 8900
My first reaction when I opened the box was: "um, it is" cheap "compared to the Curve 8900". I think that's mainly because the plastic cover of the battery, and it looks like the plastic used to make the phone a little less. However, it does not look as "cheap" than the HTC Magic for example. The Bold 9700 is a beautiful device that is relatively light, and keeps well in hand (and pocket). In my opinion, the design is better than the original Bold.

Keyboard (very good) for me, good keyboards like those BlackBerry are great for work. The Bold 9700's keyboard is good. It has the same design as the original Bold and the same touch as the Blackberry Tour. However, my preference goes to the Curve Keyboard 8900 is the best keyboard of all phones. Obviously this is a very personal opinion, and I can only recommend you try to type (long text) with one of these keyboards in a store before you make judgments. In addition to Blackberry I really like the design of the keyboard design of Palm Pix
Screen (very good): The Bold 9700 inherits the Curve's screen resolution 8900 (480x360), which is slightly higher than the original Bold (480x320). Some have reported that the screen quality is better, but using the 9700 and the 8900 side by side, I see no difference. Both are very good and clean. Because the Bold 9700 has slightly more pixels than the iPhone by inches square, the image is sharper. Usually, I leave the screen brightness to 40 (100 is the maximum). This is sufficient in most situations and saves energy ca.
Trackpad (good): Then how the trackpad behaves compared to the trackball? At first I thought the trackball was a little better, more accurate. However, after some days, I used the trackpad. Now, I do not care, and when I return to the Curve 8900, I'm not particularly happy to use the trackball again. The trackpad has the advantage of being much more resistant against dust, and would be even cheaper to Blackberry, so everybody is happy.
The buttons seem more robust and resistant to shocks (8900 up, 9700 down)
Various: The buttons on the side (volume. ..) are well integrated with the package. Overall, the design seems more robust and less inclined to take the dust pockets. The buttons are a little harder to find in the dark because they are more depressed, but overall, I think this new design as an improvement.
SMS (good): The SMS resemble IM conversations now is more readable in my opinion.
IM (good): There are embedded Instant Messaging clients default: BlackBerry Messenger, AIM, Google Talk, ICQ, Yahoo IM and MSN Messenger. I have no complaints or any particular compliment. All customers are doing what is expected of them. I do not think there is a special file or photo sharing. Not VOIP.
Maps is not bad, but it's slow (here with WIFI)
